August 2025 Trail Day Report
Thank you to everyone who came out for Advocates’ August Trail Day. We truly appreciate you putting aside this time to help keep Nisene State Park a great place to visit.
We had a great turnout - 48 Volunteers, including Advocate Board Members and State Park Personnel (Gilbert) were present.

Pacific Coffee Roasting, Companion Bake Shop and New Leaf Market provided coffee & breakfast.

It was a superb day for trail improvement!

On the previous day, a few miles north of Santa Cruz had seen a rare August rain so we were fortunate that the weather was perfect on Sunday for being out on the trails. August trail day included much-needed brushback on the Oak Ridge and Terrace Trails as well as removing a tree from the Porter Trail.

Everyone got to enjoy the gorgeous view of Aptos Creek from the seasonal bridge. This is why we are here, to enjoy and help others enjoy the park!

What We Accomplished: Brushback Completed on East and West Oak Ridge and Terrace Trails

Highlights:
-
Brushed-back on West Oak Ridge Trail completed from top connector to the Twisted Grove connector. This was a particularly strenuous trail segment to clear and we appreciate all the positive energy!
-
The crew removed ivy from one Douglas Fir and one California Live Oak tree.
-
Brushed-back East Oak Ridge Trail
-
Brushed-back the Terrace Trail: where the Terrace Trail leads to the Oak Ridge Trail had become quite overgrown with blackberry, ferns and other vegetation. Our awesome Advocates volunteers brushed it back to a perfected condition.
-
Removed a tree from the Porter Trail: This was a technical assignment requiring chainsaw skill lead by our CA Parks representative Gilbert with help from Talu and Patrick. The Porter Trail is now back in business!
