October 2025 Trail Day Report
Advocates October Trail Day was a tremendous success!

We had an amazing turnout with 54 volunteers, including Advocate Board Members and State Park Personnel (Gilbert). Thank you to all the volunteers who put aside this time to help keep Nisene State Park a great place to visit.

Pacific Coffee Roasting, Companion Bake Shop and New Leaf Market provided coffee & breakfast.

It was a fantastic day to be in amongst the redwoods!

The team had a full slate of much-needed park updates including removing the two seasonal bridges, removing invasive English ivy and brushing-back the Split Stuff Trail.
What We Accomplished:
Removed Seasonal Bridges, Removed Ivy and Brushed-back Split Stuff Trail

Highlights:
-
Removed and stowed the two seasonal bridges. Winter storms produce torrential rain and a swollen creek can damage the bridges across Aptos Creek. In October Advocates’ volunteers remove and stow the bridges until they are reinstalled in the Spring. The project involves some heavy lifting and getting damp but is a great team activity and satisfying!
-
18 members of the Kappa Gamma Delta (KGD) Sorority for Health Care Professionals along with invasive species specialist Susan, remove invasive carpet ivy from the redwood grove west of the Split Stuff Trail. This amazing team removed approximately 60 cubic feet of ivy that was encroaching on redwood trees and from the surrounding area.
-
As park visitors have noticed, vegetation along the Split Stuff Trail had heavily encroached the trail. The team widened the trail on average 6 feet from the Ranger station to the road as well as cleaned up the foot bridge nicely!
