June 2026 Trail Day Report

FATHERS, sons, daughters, mothers, brothers, sisters, grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunts and cousins!
On June Trail Day, 47 generous volunteers made The Forest of Nisene Marks a healthier, better maintained and more accessible park for visitors.🌲
First, welcome to our "First Timers"! You were a great addition to our crew!
Thank you Benjamin, CC, Colton, Nate, Parker, Phil, Riley, Robert, Tomas & Brooklyn and Toni! Wow! We hope that you will join us again.
We had lots of Dads and at least 5 Father/Child(ren) combos

The rest of us supported each other as we worked to improve the forest and made a difference with our efforts!
Our projects this month included:

Brushed-back plant growth on the Porter Trail. Two teams fearlessly crossed Aptos Creek whacked poison ivy, cleared a truckload of encroaching plants and groomed the trail. Many passerby hikers expressed their appreciation for the trail improvements.

Removed invasive English ivy from the Old Growth Loop Trail. Just look at those enormous piles of conquered ivy! The energetic team of 14 lead by John and Ellen removed ivy from and around a lovely grove of 35 redwoods. A great time was has by all.

Completed installing new decking material on Margaret's Bridge. This important improvement ensures no more biking or hiking injuries from catching the edge of the deck. Special thanks to Joe for spearheading the project from start to end!

Cut and cleared fallen trees on the Oak Ridge Trail and Porter Trail (go Andrea!)
