THE TRAIL OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER IS THE BUGGY TRAIL

A leisurely walk on this easy trail will complement a lazy day at George’s Picnic Area.

Bordered by sword ferns, this half-mile trail heads south from George’s Picnic Area on a level grade before gently climbing into an oak forest. After a brief descent, you arrive et Aptos Creak Road.

You have three trails to choose from for your return to the picnic area: 1) retrace your steps on the Buggy Trail; 2) turn right and follow the Aptos Creek Road; or 3) cross over the road and connect with the Aptos Rancho Trail.

To return via the Aptos Rancho Trail, cross the road and take the Vienna Woods Trail going downhill. Within about 200 feet, you will connect with the Aptos Ranco Trail at Tillman Memorial Grove. Turn right and follow the trail as it winds along the hillside between the road and Aptos Creek through a shady forest of second-growth redwood trees. It will end across from the George’s Picnic Area parking lot.

Advocate’s volunteer trail workers recently cleared the Buggy Trail of encroaching vegetation including a lot of poison oak.

On Sunday July 16, 2023 a crew of seven volunteers and a State Park’s attacked the encroaching vegetation using a variety of tools. Within a few hours the whole trail was cleared and widened in many places.
